India-U.S. defense ties have deepened considerably over the last decade. The 2005 New Framework Agreement, renewed earlier this year, established a strong foundation for defense cooperation through dialogue, service-level exchanges, military exercises, and trade and technology collaboration. Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s election, the U.S. has quickly become one of the largest suppliers of defense equipment to India.

On December 10th, as Defense Secretary Ashton Carter hosted Indian Minister for Defense Manohar Parrikar, Hudson Institute and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) held an afternoon panel discussion on the future of India-U.S. defense collaboration. Panelists included Subodh Rajendra Babu, Jayant Patil, Col. H.S. Shankar, and Michael Pillsbury. Former U.S. Under Secretary of Defense for Policy and Hudson Senior Fellow Douglas Feith moderated the discussion.
