Despite the considerable common ground between two of the world’s largest and oldest democracies, the United States and India have yet to realize the full potential of their relationship. A strong partnership is clearly in the interest of both nations as India emerges as an economic powerhouse with an influential voice in international affairs and the United States maintains its global leadership role.

India and the United States share policy views on important issues including regional stability, nuclear nonproliferation, and terrorism. Both are invested in securing peace in Afghanistan and Pakistan and stabilizing the Asia-Pacific region. While economic ties between the United States and India have recently progressed, the vast commercial potential of the association remains largely untapped. Improved diplomatic and business relations between India and the United States would support each nation’s progress and advance peaceful policies and stability throughout the globe.

On September 24th, Hudson Institute hosted a panel discussion on security, political, and economic relations between India and the United States. Moderated by Hudson Institute Director for South and Central Asia, Ambassador Husain Haqqani, the expert panel featured Bruce Riedel and Tanvi Madan of the Brookings Institution, Alyssa Ayres of the Council on Foreign Relations, Sadanand Dhume of the American Enterprise Institute, and Ambassador Pradeep Kapur.
