Hudson Institute will host Czech Minister of Finance Zbyněk Stanjura on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, for a speech focused on the economic and security implications of Russian aggression against Ukraine. Currently performing duties for the presidency of the Council of the European Union, Minister Stanjura will provide his perspectives from Prague.

The Czech government of Prime Minister Petr Fiala has prioritized transatlantic cooperation, defense relations, energy security, democratic values, and human rights. Czechia has also been one of the European leaders in assisting Ukraine. For example, Prague has granted temporary protection status to more than 400,000 Ukrainian refugees, has provided substantial humanitarian aid, and has delivered significant military assistance to Ukraine. Czechia must also deal with Europe’s dependence on Russian oil and natural gas, volatile energy markets, unprecedented inflation, preexisting fiscal pressures, and the need to increase defense spending.

Please join Hudson Institute for a conversation on these complex challenges that the Czech presidency of the Council of the European Union will need to address.
