Join Hudson Institute Distinguished Fellow Walter Russell Mead for a discussion with economist Tyler Cowen on the future of technology and the middle class.

The rise of information technology is radically transforming the U.S. economy and American society. As machines become more effective and efficient, working class jobs will be replaced and traditional paths of social mobility could be stymied. In this environment, is there a future for the American middle class?

Tyler Cowen is a Bloomberg Opinion columnist, a professor of economics at George Mason University and a writer at the popular blog Marginal Revolution. He is a prolific source of original and penetrating insights about American and global economic affairs, and the author of influential books including The Great Stagnation and Average Is Over.

This conversation is part of a series entitled, “The Future of the Middle Class” by Hudson Institute’s Center for the Future of Liberal Society. In this series, Hudson Distinguished Fellow Walter Russell Mead moderates thought-provoking discussions with policy experts on some of the most pressing challenges associated with rebuilding the economy and promoting the prosperity of America’s middle class.
