Ten months after the beginning of their most recent border standoff, relations between India and China remain on a downward trajectory. China’s deepening military and economic relationships with countries of South Asia and the Indian Ocean region has raised fears of strategic encirclement of India. India’s response has been to align more closely with the United States and democratic allies Japan and Australia.
