Join Hudson Institute for an expert panel discussion on the United States’ peace agreement with the Afghan Taliban. This conversation will be moderated by Ambassador Husain Haqqani, Director for South and Central Asia at Hudson Institute and the former Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States. Ambassador Haqqani will speak with Ambassador Javid Ahmad, Afghanistan's Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Senior Fellow (nonresident) at the Atlantic Council, and Bill Roggio, Senior Fellow and Editor of The Foundation for Defense of Democracies' Long War Journal.

One year after the United States signed a peace agreement with the Afghan Taliban and almost two decades after American-led coalition forces invaded Afghanistan to topple the Taliban, peace talks with the Taliban are at a standstill and violence continues unabated. Should the current negotiations be allowed to continue or should the Biden administration rethink this strategy? Can the Taliban be taken at their word that they would not let international terrorist groups operate in Afghanistan once U.S. troops leave? Our panelists will address these and other questions.
