Join Hudson scholars Dr. Nadia Schadlow and Bryan Clark as they engage General Richard Clarke and Dr. Richard Shultz in a conversation examining U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM)’s role in advancing the employment of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) in the fight against current and future enemies of the United States. They will discuss Project Maven, initially executed to automate the processing and exploitation of full-motion video collected by intelligence, and the extent to which the Department of Defense has evolved from a hardware-centric organization to one which fully harnesses the power of AI and ML software.

Gen. Richard Clarke currently serves as the Commander of USSOCOM and most previously served as Director for Strategic Plans and Policy (J5), Joint Staff, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. Dr. Richard Schultz is the Lee E. Dirks Professor of Diplomatic History and Director of the International Security Studies Program at Tufts University’s The Fletcher School. Dr. Shultz has also served as a security consultant to various U.S. government agencies since the mid-1980s.
