U.K. Co-Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China

**This event will premiere on this page at 12:00 p.m. EDT, Wednesday, July 8.**

Join Hudson Institute for a conversation with the former leader of the Conservative Party and U.K. Co-Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China Sir Ian Duncan Smith MP on the threat posed by China and how Britain should respond to Beijing's growing antagonism.

While ties worsen between China and the West, relations between Britain and China have begun to change dramatically. As London abandons its pursuit of a "Golden Era" with Beijing over repression in Hong Kong, the outbreak of the coronavirus, and tensions over surveillance embedded into 5G technologies and infrastructure, a new period of hostility is dawning.

Is China a systemic threat to Britain? What is the U.K. doing to safeguard its 5G network and the construction of its nuclear power plants from Chinese manipulation? How is Britain responding to China's atrocities in Xinjiang? How should London respond to the draconian crackdown in Hong Kong?

Hudson Research Fellow Ben Judah will moderate the conversation.
