While the United States and its allies dominated the race for 3G and 4G cellular infrastructure and the applications enabled by those technologies, they are now being challenged by China for control of crucial 5G systems. 5G technology is increasingly important in mobile communications and related technologies such as artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, and the internet of things.

However, recent U.S. export control regulations on 5G technologies are hampering many U.S. companies from participating in meetings of international standard-setting bodies, potentially leaving the field exposed to aggressive Chinese firms like Huawei.

Hudson Institute will host a panel of experts to consider the economic and political ramifications of Chinese efforts to control standard-setting and the national security concerns that limit U.S. participation in these processes.

NOTE: This event is open to the press. All members of the media should RSVP to press@hudson.org.
