On October 3, Hudson Institute hosted a discussion to examine the current state of Syria and risks of new regional conflict. Syria remains a geopolitical hotspot with the U.S., Israel, Turkey, Russia, and Iran directing military forces deployed in the country. The panel will consider the potential for conflict between proxy powers, the continued use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime, and the country’s prospects for peace and stability. Panelists included Michael Pregent, a senior fellow at Hudson Institute; Oubai Shahbandar, a fellow with New America's International Security program; Bassam Barabandi, a former Syrian diplomat; and Yasmine Farouk, a visiting scholar at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace's Middle East program.
