Experts agree that the future of modern defense will be built on key advances in science and technology, from robotics and artificial intelligence to high-energy lasers and electromagnetic spectrum applications, as well as advances in the cyber and space domains. No two countries can work together more effectively on these developing technologies than the United States and Japan.

On December 19, Hudson Institute was honored to host the first-ever international symposium with engineers and policy experts from both countries who will discuss opportunities for U.S.-Japan collaboration on emerging technologies, military strategy, and defense innovation.

Moderated by Hudson Executive Vice President Lewis Libby and Hudson Senior Fellow Dr. Arthur Herman, the symposium's keynote speakers included Dr. Andrew Krepinevich, former Director of the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments; Vice Admiral (Ret.) Yoji Koda, Japanese Maritime Self Defense Forces; and Dr. Hirokazu Hokazono, Deputy Commissioner of the Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics Agency (ATLA) for the Japanese Ministry of Defense.
