Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Washington coincides with a period of increasing security tensions between the U.S. and China. Recent cyberattacks and continued Sino-American friction over military issues, territorial claims, and human rights violations loom over the summit. Speculation about the visit has focused on China’s potential role in enforcing the Iran nuclear deal and stabilizing the world economy. However, analysts have not yet discussed how this summit will impact Taiwan, which has a significant stake in U.S.-China relations. What does the summit mean for Taiwan’s place in the Asia-Pacific theater?

On Wednesday September 30th, Hudson Institute hosted a timely panel that discussed the impact and result of Xi’s visit. Moderated by Seth Cropsey, the panel featured Mark Stokes and Ian Easton of Project 2049 and Hudson’s Michael Pillsbury.
