On Tuesday, June 16th, Pulitzer Prize-winning Wall Street Journal foreign affairs columnist Bret Stephens joined Hudson’s Director for South and Central Asia, Ambassador Husain Haqqani, and our Distinguished Scholar Walter Russell Mead, in a penetrating conversation about prospects for restored American global leadership in the coming post-Obama era. All three panelists expressed pointed concern about the international disorder and unnecessary tragedy that results when the United States retreats from its diplomatic and security responsibilities. And each shared his views about how America can and must reengage with those responsibilities – and restore U.S. preeminence on the world stage in the near-term future.

This June 16th panel discussion was the final event in Hudson’s 2014-2015 New York speaker series, which featured distinguished guests – like U.S. News & World Report publisher Mort Zuckerman; former Senator Joe Lieberman; former Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and Hudson Distinguished Fellow Mike Rogers; Ron Prosor, Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations; His Eminence Cardinal Timothy Dolan; renowned journalists Jeffrey Goldberg and David Brooks; and Admiral Cecil Haney, Commander of the United States Strategic Command – in conversation with the Institute’s own leading scholars and experts.

Hudson’s New York speaker series will continue for the 2015-2016 season beginning later this fall.
